Pro Bono

We believe that we have a moral obligation to contribute to the community which has been good to us, and we do this through our community work and our pro bono legal services. We are aware of our social responsibility to assist marginalised and disadvantaged people, and we are committed to giving back to our community whenever and wherever we can.

Our pro bono program includes:

• Volunteering at the Cairns Community Legal Centre
• Providing legal advice and representation for clients and community organisations
• Representation on various boards and organisations
• Volunteering our time and expertise
• Fundraising activities and charity involvement within the local community

Community Involvement

At Miller Harris we believe in supporting our local community, and we do this through fundraising, volunteering our time, providing academic sponsorship and through our pro bono work.

Harald's House

Miller Harris Lawyers hold regular fundraising events to raise money for Harald's House, an organisation that supports homeless children and young people in Cairns. For 20 years this charity has provided food, support and hope to these kids.

Relay for Life

We sponsor our staff at Miller Harris Lawyers to participate in the 18 hour team relay event run by the Cancer Council, as well as our staff volunteering their time to help raise money for cancer research. Relay For Life celebrates cancer survivors and remembers loved ones lost to cancer.

The Cairns Community Legal Centre

As a non-profit, government funded community organisation that provides free legal services to socially and disadvantaged members of the Cairns community, the Cairns Community Legal Centre relies on local support to help run its centre. Miller Harris Lawyers provides lawyers to work on a volunteer basis each month as well as pro bono administration assistance.

James Cook University

Miller Harris Lawyers is committed to fostering graduates from James Cook University through academic sponsorship of prizes, employing local law graduates, and mentoring and sponsoring students as part-time paralegals until they begin their legal traineeships with us.
