The Hon. Travis E. Lindenmayer was educated at Wondai State School and Brisbane Grammar School (1953 to 1956). Judge Lindenmayer then attended the University of Queensland (1957 to 1962), obtained a BA and LLB (QLD) 1962 and was admitted to the Queensland Bar on 19 February, 1963.
Judge Lindenmayer developed a wide general practice including significant components of Family Law, Common Law (torts, contract etc.), Industrial Law and some Criminal Law.
Judge Lindenmayer was appointed Judge of the Family Court of Australia (Brisbane Registry) on 27 February, 1976 (at age 36). He was assigned to the Appeal Division of the Court for two years on 25 November, 1983 and again on 1 January, 1988. Judge Lindenmayer was then assigned permanently to the Appeal Division on 21 October, 1991, a position held until retirement on 31 December, 2002.
On 3 December, 2002, the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland inaugurated an annual award, in honour of Judge Lindenmayer, to be called “The Trav Lindenmayer Memorial Award”, the criteria for selection being “Integrity, Intellect and Industry”.
There have been innumerable judgments (both Nisi Prius and Appellate), plus many papers and articles produced by Judge Lindenmayer during his long and distinguished career.
